I don’t know about you, but over the last year, I’ve had this Saturn Return to my teen/childhood self. The last time this happened was during the pandemic in 2020-2021, when I fell back in love with my old favorite pop-punk bands (shout-out to Hey Monday) and childhood TV shows (rewatching Boy Meets World was so pivotal).
Well, it’s happening again, and as I started telling others about it, I’ve found out more are doing it too. Not that I care what anyone thinks anymore, but it’s been so refreshing hearing others share hobbies and activities that they’ve fallen back in love with, regardless of whether it’s popular or not.
What this says about me and others in this same realm is that we are realigning. I’ve been shedding things from clothes, books, TV shows, and hobbies on things that just aren’t aligned with me anymore. I’m not going to lie, it’s been an extremely uncomfortable process, but now that I'm on the other side, I can tell it was necessary.
Sure, some of the things I’m into, like preferring to go to a museum mixer or author event for a book launch, might not always have the most people, but I wouldn’t trade the feeling of being more myself for anything.
For those of you who want to pick up old hobbies, rediscover your college playlist, and things you cherished before life did its thing, I say dive in.
Maybe that’s the answer to the change you’ve been searching for that’ll jump-start the creativity you’ve been searching for.
Who cares if no one else in your circle is listening or watching the same thing? You might meet someone else who is. Go to that event or listening party for that thing, and you could wind up meeting a new friend or just realizing you’re not the only one who is indulging in that type of music.
Summer 2026 is all about rediscovering what makes you YOU, regardless of whether it’s trending or not.
